Exploring Packing and Moving Tips

Four Things That Can Stall Your Move Out Process

If you are planning on moving in the near future, you might be dreading the process. By putting off planning for your move, you can actually make things harder on yourself. Here are four things that might stall your move out process and how to avoid them.

1. Not Scheduling Movers in Advance

If you are having a hard time picking the best day for your big move, you may be postponing calling a moving company. However, the closer you get to your move deadline, the harder it will be to schedule a company. It is better to map out your schedule and get movers on the books even weeks in advance, especially if this is a long distance move or on the weekend. The good thing about getting movers on the schedule is you will have a date in sight to work towards.

2. Not Taking the Process Seriously

If you aren't serious about your move efforts, these can be derailed quickly. If you cannot get around to packing and planning during the weekends, take some time off of work to dedicate to moving. Get started early with organizing, purging, and donating things you don't need. If you can treat moving like a job and have certain times designated to the process, you will be more likely to take this seriously and stay on task.

3. Not Accounting for Weather Concerns

While you cannot control the weather, you can control some of the aspects of your move day and have safeguards in place in case it rains. You should do anything that you can to protect your items and flooring during a move that takes place in inclement weather. While your moving company may have coverings and plastic to put down, you could help by being prepared old rugs or cardboard as well.

4. Underestimating Your Amount of Household Items

It can be hard to assess how much stuff you have until you can pull your items out and start packing. It is a good idea to make a list of your inventory before you call to schedule movers. This way you won't forget about barstools or an ottoman that might take up more space than you realized. Getting going on packing up closets and kitchen items is a good plan as well, since these spaces tend to hide more items than you realize.

The most important thing to remember when it comes to moving is to take the process seriously. If you can get organized in advance, you'll hopefully be ready on your move day. Moving on schedule can help you avoid troubles with landlords, movers, and your own commitments.
